Welcome STUDENTS AND FAMILIES to our 2020-2021 school year!

This website was originally built for our classroom, but has been modified to include our online learning platform and general information about how our class is structured for in-person and blended learning situations.

Please keep in mind that while we (teachers and students) learned a lot last spring about what works and what doesn't. This is still very new for all of us so please be patient, and know that your feedback is both valued and important. In fact, your feedback to the district last spring inspired me to keep things simple. As of now, our class' remote learning will feature a four pronged approach.

1. Class website (you are here now) - this will be a place where you and the kids can go for downloadable resources and assignments (every math topic is uploaded on our math tab), links to other websites that we may use (Khan Academy or Art Hub for example), and general class procedures and information that should remain constant throughout the year.

2. Class Blog - the class blog will be for weekly updates...kind of like a digital newsletter!

3. Google Classroom - the kids will be able access our Google Classroom through Classlink. There, students will be able to submit a variety of assignments, including but not limited to writing prompts, slide presentations, and formal assessments.

4. PowerSchool - this will be where attendance and grades will be recorded. I will also be able to communicate with you via email through this venue, so (parents) please be sure that your email address is in the system, updated, and correct.
I want you to know that I am committed you, your child, and their learning. I will always give you my best, and I am always striving to improve. I realize that many students had very different experiences during the fourth quarter, and that there may be some holes to fill in. Normally, during the first two/three weeks of school, I fully engage in building rapport, teaching classroom routines and procedures, establishing a class culture, and give strategic diagnostic and formative assessments. It is my belief, that effective teachers connect with kids. When that connection is made, students see true and lasting growth. Relationships and bonds need to be made. It is my hope that we will be able to do so still, but since this is going to look very different, we need to start somewhere. I will be putting out a calendar, our "Schedule" so to speak, and built in, will be time to meet individually with both you and your child, so we can speak about your concerns, experiences so far, and your expectations of rigor. I have my ideas, but I want to know what you are thinking, because every student is different, with different needs and strengths that I want to tap into. Stay tuned for more...

Directions to student access to Class Link (PDF)

Google classroom

Each student has been connected with their teacher via Google Classroom. Here you will see assignments and activities like reading and writing prompts. To access your Google Classroom, you can open up your Class Link, and you will see and icon for Google Classroom.

English/Language Arts

The essential skills the fourth grade team is targeting for the rest of the year is basic conventions in writing (capitalization, punctuation, and complete sentences), and summarizing in reading. Each week, 4th grade students will be given activities to support these areas. You can find more information about these activities in the English/Language Arts tab

Math (Khan academy)

I have decided to record and upload our daily math lessons from Zoom to our Google Classroom under the Math section. You will find that the lessons are labeled for each Topic by the date that they were recorded.

I have also uploaded the entire EnVision Curriculum by topic as packets. You can download these in the Math section if you prefer paper copies.

Choice Board

Students will further their focus on the basic conventions in writing through integrated activities that combine writing with science, social studies, art, health, and PE. You can find more information about these activities in the Choice Board tab.

Enrichment

Some students may find that they would like to go further in their studies. Many enrichment activities and links can be found in the here.

Art

Weller's own Mr. B has made some videos that feature at-home art projects. You can find the lessons on his YouTube channel, accessible here.
